Helping society at all levels
PwC Egypt's approach to corporate responsibility aims to help society at multiple levels: healthcare, children, families in need, and literacy.
For four years, the Egyptian firm has been closely involved in projects to assist cancer patients. Assistance to cancer patients includes underwriting the cost of screening, x-rays, medical tests, and care for individual patients. PwC also provides direct assistance to hospitals that have experienced shortages of medicine. This is in addition to blood donation campaigns carried out periodically to help the National Cancer Institute with blood transfusions.
PwC Egypt’s volunteer work is also focused on special needs orphanages. This year, the firm sponsored an outing for four such orphanages during which over 300 children played, drew, and had fun with face paints. Moreover, the PwC team raised LE 21,000, which was distributed among the four orphanages.
Staff and alumni from PwC Egypt carry out case studies in the homes of disadvantaged families. These case studies assess their financial situation and level of need. Following the assessment families are supported through monetary donations, used clothes fairs, food supplies, and medical cover.
As part of its "education pillar" PwC Egypt has partnered with the Sphinx Foundation for Development to finance a literacy project in an underprivileged area, Ezzbet El Arab, which is suffering from a 90 percent illiteracy rate. The project's aim is to carry out free reading and writing classes in the evening; fundraise for the Sphinx Foundation; and provide the foundation with professional services related to administration and finance.
