Making a lasting impact in Central and Eastern Europe

Started from scratch in May 2007 with a focus on profound social change, PwC firms in the Central and Eastern European (CEE) territory developed a comprehensive and consistent policy for community engagement that has been rolled out to all CEE territories. The consolidation of PwC efforts regionally has facilitated knowledge sharing, and as a result, enhance the impact of individual initiatives.

The CEE "PwC in the Community" plan is based on: giving, volunteering, providing professional services and corporate community leadership. The plan also focuses on poverty reduction, access to education, development of youth, cultural awareness and environmental concerns. As part of the regional community approach, territory coordinators and sponsoring partners in each of the 26 territories have been chosen to lead and coordinate their respective territory's commitment to the plan.

What differentiates this approach from other programs is the fact that it is done on a regional scale and requires the close cooperation of various people and teams within the region. The regional policy has resulted in improved participation levels and greater contribution to the community across the entire CEE territory.

The development of this program in one year is a good example of how territories can cooperate to make a significant impact on society and demonstrate responsible leadership on a broader scale.
