Encouraging good corporate citizenship in Portugal
PwC Portugal has partnered with a well-known Portuguese business school AESE/IESE to create an award to recognise sustainable management practice in corporate citizenship. There were prize categories for NGOs and companies. In 2007, AMI (Medical International Assistance), "Banco Alimentar contra a Fome" (an organisation working to combat hunger) and a local association that works with the disabled received the awards for the NGO category—recognising new opportunities for the NGOs to broaden their fundraising base and their ability to establish partnerships with corporates. Three major companies (EDP, Unicer and TNT) received corresponding awards in recognition of their sustainable management skills.
In addition, PwC is now leading courses in sustainability and corporate responsibility for graduate students and MBAs attending AESE/IESE. The high profile awards program has also led to speaking engagements for PwC partners at local business conferences and seminars on sustainability.
