Success stories: United States

The work that PwC and the students did enabled the school to reopen as a charter school.

Project New Orleans helps community in need

PwC US partners and staff hosted 85 students from colleges and universities across the US for a day of meaningful but challenging work in New Orleans. The object of their labours was Warren Easton, New Orleans' oldest high school, which was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina. Floodwaters reached 10 to 12 feet on the building's first floor. Books, computers, hallways and classrooms were all destroyed.

After a long summer day of painting, scraping, digging, sawing and hammering, the school that had been destroyed and closed for a year once again had fences, flowers, fresh paint and a truly inspiring mural. The work that PwC and the students did enabled the school to reopen as a charter school. In addition to selecting the student volunteers (from over 5,000 applicants) and organising the work teams, PwC donated $100,000 to rebuild and revitalise the auditorium.
