A survey of independent UK-based funds which raise capital from third party investors

This year's BVCA private equity and venture capital performance measurement survey 2007 shows that despite the well-publicised volatility that impacted capital markets in 2007, returns have continued to improve, even surpassing those seen in 2006. The total return to investors over ten years continues to rise, reaching 20.1% per annum across all funds, up 140 basis points from the 2006 survey.

The private equity industry has continued to become more global in its outlook and the UK has taken full advantage of this, positioning itself as a gateway to continental Europe and beyond. BVCA member firms now, for the first time, invest more in continental Europe than they do in the UK itself. The UK’s share of investment contracted from 58% in 2005 and 47% in 2006, to 38% last year. This is a clear and accelerating change in the investment trend.

This survey is the most comprehensive and detailed of its kind in the world. Full member firms of the BVCA all of which are committed to open reporting, gave their full support and co-operation in supplying the data for this research.
