Partner, Insurance and Assurance, Captive Insurance Leader, and Regional Human Capital Leader, PwC Bermuda
David is the Captive Insurance Leader and the Lead Insurance and Assurance Partner at PwC Bermuda. He also leads Human Capital and Inclusion and Diversity for PwC in the Caribbean. He joined PwC Bermuda in 2005 and has 20 years experience in the global insurance industry. A stalwart of the Bermuda captive industry, David has consistently placed in the top 25 of the annual Captive Review Power 50 global rankings.
David heads PwC Bermuda’s dedicated captive insurance group, working with some of the largest captive accounts in the world and delivering captive insurance solutions throughout the captive lifecycle. David leads his team’s delivery of coordinated services to more than 200 captive insurance companies in Bermuda, which remains the world’s leading captive domicile. His clients include pre-eminent industrial and financial services organizations around the world.
David has developed PwC Bermuda’s annual Captive Update Seminars focusing both on technical and business issues facing the Captive insurance and ILS industries;
He advises ILS clients including SPI CAT bond structured issuers as well as companies with integrated and complex insurance and fund programs including ILWs and Quota Share contracts;
Provides captive focused internal audit services.
Is a frequent speaker, panelist and attendee at international industry conferences including the Bermuda Captive Conference, and RIMS.
Is a contributor to captive industry thought leadership and reports, including the annual Captive Review Bermuda Report; and is a past chair of the Bermuda Captive Conference.
Is a champion for diversity and inclusion and developing a new generation of talent in the industry;
Thought leader on COVID-19 impact and increasing interest in the uses of captives and how captives can add value.
David has responsibility for the management and delivery of the firm’s actuarial, assurance and advisory services to a large portfolio of life insurance clients. His clients include insurers and reinsurers of employee benefits, fixed annuity, variable annuity, variable annuity riders and term life products and he has comprehensive experience in dealing with the accounting policies (under IFRS and US GAAP) and regulatory issues surrounding these products and extensive knowledge of complex accounting issues associated with reinsurance structures such as funds withheld and modified coinsurance agreements.
David is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Bermuda, Institute of the Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Hons.), Queen’s University.
