Customs Flash: CBAM Updates

The European Commission has recently proposed significant amendments to the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) aimed at simplifying compliance and reducing administrative burdens for importers. These changes, announced on February 26th, 2025, include exemptions for small importers, a new import threshold, and postponed financial impacts.

For larger importers, the proposal introduces a series of simplifications, such as a new 50% rule for CBAM certificates, while the annual deadline for CBAM declarations has been extended, providing more time for compliance.
