Global Investor Survey - Redefining business success in a changing world

Over 400 investment professionals gave us their views on the threats and opportunities facing the companies they follow and where they see areas for improvement in strategy and communication.

For the first time, we are able to compare the responses from CEOs in PwC’s CEO Survey with the views of investment professionals around the world. Amid fresh concerns about economic and business growth, investment professionals and CEOs are facing an increasingly divergent and fast-paced world where technology is driving rapid change in the expectations of customers and other stakeholders. Investment professionals and CEOs see many risks and barriers to change, with geopolitical uncertainty a key concern.

Key findings

  • CEOs are more optimistic than investment professionals about global economic growth and revenue growth prospects in the short to medium term.
  • Both CEOs and investment professionals are under no illusions about the challenges that businesses face when it comes to technology. Both know that tomorrow’s innovation could spell the beginning of the end for today’s global giant.
  • CEOs and investment professionals also share major concerns about the threat posed by geopolitical uncertainty.
  • We’ve also found that CEOs and investment professionals don’t always see the world the same way. These differences of viewpoint spotlight the areas where CEOs might want to look again at their strategic priorities and how they communicate these to investors and analysts.
  • Based on our feedback from CEOs and investment professionals, success may not always be about maximising profitability. It may also encompass other forms of impact (e.g. environmental or societal).
