Launched in 2020, the PwC US Thrive programme is an invitation-only two-year experience for Black and Latino/Hispanic entry level and experienced associates. It aims to foster belonging and connectivity, expand their relationships and highlight some valuable career navigation tips.
At the core of Thrive lies its emphasis on fostering connections and establishing a sense of belonging among participants. PwC US Chief People & Inclusion Officer, Yolanda Seals-Coffield, has witnessed firsthand how the programme can connect first and second-year associates with their peers, Partners and mentors who can help guide them.
“Thrive is an incredible leadership development opportunity for our first and second-year associates. It provides them with the opportunity to form connections and bonds, to connect with their peer group and also to spend some time connecting with our Partners and individuals who are going to help support their growth."
Thrive alumni, Davele Zephyr, took advantage of her time in the programme to network and grow her connections, which has been helpful to growing and developing her career.
“When I reflect on what it takes to be successful at PwC, developing strong relationships is key. Thrive has been integral to growing my network and helping me navigate professional opportunities. I’ve seen firsthand the value of nurturing the relationships I’ve built and being intentional about who I invite to my network.”
As a part of the programme, Thrivers are developing a strong community of peers and leaders who can support them throughout their development at PwC US. Thrive Partner Champion Noel Bowers has provided ongoing mentorship through the programme, which has underscored to her the sense of community the programme can provide.
“Thrive to me is a community of people who know what you need and what you desire and recognise the potential you have to be amazing at whatever you do. It’s also a community that resonates with where you’re from, where you’re going, and can help inspire you toward success at PwC and beyond.”
Thrive offers a wide-ranging curriculum that focuses on leadership development and upskilling to help our people grow personally and professionally. PwC US Principal Shannon Schuyler applauds the programme’s ability to help encourage Thrivers to take their careers to the next level.
“Thrive serves as a transformative opportunity for individuals to not only build upon their existing accomplishments that led them to PwC, but also to help grow their skills, expand their network, and gain a deeper understanding of themselves. Through Thrive, participants are empowered to intentionally seek a sense of belonging on a personal level, while simultaneously being supported toward success.”
Another key component of Thrive is helping associates find their voice and sense of confidence in the workplace. Thrive PwC US Partner Champion Gaby Alejandro encourages Thrivers he connects with to embrace bold moves as a part of their takeaways on how to advance their careers.
“The biggest advice I’ve received during my own career is not to be afraid of making bold moves. There have been many times throughout my career where I’ve been asked to move abroad, to take on a new client assignment, or to change industries. If it wasn’t for those big bold moves, I wouldn’t be where I am today, so I hope our Thrivers can get comfortable with embracing the next big move that will help take them to the next level in their careers."
By investing in the experience and opportunities, Thrive helps inspire associates to realise their full potential, even after they complete the programme. Former Thrive participant, Orlando Berges, credits the programme for growing his skills and network.
“I was a part of Thrive and completed the programme last year. Based on my experience, it’s a great programme that helped me prepare for my career. One of the first sessions I had at Thrive was focused on personal brand development and it really helped me plan out how I wanted to present myself to others and what I was going to do to try to get to that next position. I was able to gain skills and connect with many people that built out my network and opportunities at the firm.”
Throughout their Thrive journey, associates learn the importance of building a solid professional foundation and building trust-based relationships. In addition to helpful career navigation strategies, Thrive is helping our people embrace their authentic selves in the workplace with confidence.
“Words cannot fully capture the impact of Thrive. It serves as a great platform for self-growth, networking, and learning from experienced professionals within the organisation. Through the programme, I obtained a newfound sense of purpose and determination, providing me with a clear goal for my journey at PwC US. My Thrive experience has also underscored the importance of building relationships and fostering connections within the organisation. Through Thrive, you have the opportunity to expand your knowledge, develop new skills, and gain insights that can positively impact your career growth and development."
Since its inception in 2020, PwC US is delighted to have had 4,079 PwCers participate in the Thrive programme, and the programme is truly having an impact on its current and past participants. Thrive participant surveys highlight that 95% of participants felt Thrive contributed to their sense of belonging at PwC US; and 98% said they are confident they can apply the new knowledge and skills gained through the programme to their jobs. We look forward to continuing to leverage Thrive to provide a supportive community, help foster connections, and provide guidance on career navigation while encouraging leaders to actively participate in the mentoring of Black and Latino/Hispanic entry level and experienced associates.
