Redwood Migration

Where has your Oracle HCM Cloud programme taken you so far? Have you achieved your company’s goals? Tech-powering the human resources (HR) function can be highly rewarding, providing myriad benefits such as streamlined processes, increased efficiency, and cost savings. Unfortunately, as PwC analysis indicatesOpens in a new window, 88% of executives say they struggle to capture value from their technology investments, and 85% said it is a challenge to update operating models. In our experience, some of the common issues HR teams experience after the technology implementation include low ROI, security risks, inefficient processes, low user engagement, and slow innovation.

In 2025, enterprises worldwide are strongly encouraged to transition to Oracle’s Redwood UX, a modern user interface for Oracle applications with intuitive design and advanced functionalities. But in the process of making the necessary move to the new experience, HR teams have a prime opportunity to adopt best practices, build a better workflow, eliminate unnecessary customisations, improve efficiency, and unlock value from your technology investment.

For many companies, the necessary transition will be challenging. They may need to dedicate resources and time to make the adjustments needed before migrating to the new platform. Those who do not take advantage of Redwood may quickly be left behind as they will not be able to adopt future Oracle enhancements until they have fully embraced Redwood. On the bright side, doing it – and doing it right – yields tangible business benefits.

Migration is an opportunity to fuel your HR function

The transition to Redwood UX is part of a broad effort by Oracle to foster an improved user experience across its solutions. The new platform offers significant benefits, including:

  • Enhanced Efficiency: Redwood provides streamlined navigation while embedded analytics empower data-driven decision-making. Key HR processes such as promotions will take fewer clicks and approvals in Redwood, increasing organisational agility.
  • Future-Proof Technology: Redwood makes it easier for HR teams to align with Oracle’s roadmap, personalise upgrade safe pages and transactions to your brand and requirements, and is the only way to uptake new advancements in artificial intelligence (AI).
  • Modern Design: The Redwood framework integrates traditional and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and responsive designs, fostering a seamless, scalable, and consistent user experience across applications.
  • Put your AI to Work: Traditional and generative AI capabilities are deeply embedded in Oracle Redwood. These offer real-time, personalised assistance in tasks such as hiring, workforce scheduling, electing benefits, performance management, and much more. Laborious processes that currently require several steps and clicks can be streamlined to achieve efficiency by switching on these AI capabilities within Redwood. You can demonstrate the value of AI capabilities to gain stakeholder buy in.

Think about Oracle Redwood as a completely new way to interact with Oracle applications. In this sense, the new human capital management solution will allow your team to engage with a sophisticated application, streamlined workflows that display information in a more cohesive, interactive manner. Redwood UX provides a consumer grade experience with improved accessibility, responsiveness, and efficiency. These features have the potential to streamline your HR team’s processes with minimal clicks and intuitive user navigation.

Make the most of it by reviewing your current technology, identifying inefficiencies before the migration, and following our six do’s and don’ts.

Kick the tires before hitting the road

One of the ways PwC helps enterprises identify potential risks and set themselves up for a smooth transition to Redwood is by conducting a health check of their current system. You should consider engaging with PwC for an Oracle HCM Health Check:

  • If your organisation is complex, with varying rules and workflows to satisfy global and/or regulatory requirements
  • If your organisation’s needs or business priorities have changed since you implemented Oracle HCM
  • If it’s been more than five years since the implementation of your HCM platform with no major enhancements since then
  • If your leaders have concerns about the Oracle transformation's progress, outcomes, and ROI
  • If there is a disconnect between business and IT stakeholders

If any of these resonate, the Health Check can provide a diagnostic review of your HR technology, evaluating its efficiency, security, and alignment with your business goals. It identifies opportunities to enhance system performance and user satisfaction while maximising ROI. The Health Check can help your company:

  • Improve ROI through better utilisation of existing features
  • Enhance security with stronger configurations and compliance measures
  • Streamline workflows and reduce inefficiencies
  • Increase user satisfaction through targeted process improvements
  • Unlock strategic alignment with regular system updates and business goals

Five Redwood UX migration do’s and don’ts

  1. Look under the hood if it has been a while. If you don’t inspect your personal vehicle every few months, it’s likely you will miss an underlying issue ultimately leaving you stranded when the vehicle breaks down. Your users may feel this way if their experience feels antiquated, and they may not care to keep your HCM data current. This could have devasting impacts on your turnover rate and the ability to measure your organisation’s performance. Start with the PwC Health Check.
  2. Ask yourself questions. Take a step back. Look at the processes currently in place, and imagine simpler, better human capital management operations. Ask your team questions such as: “Does our promotion process require these many data points from managers, and instead could our standardise and default key data points?” “If we required managers to watch a 1-minute video inside of a Redwood Journey prior to starting a Promotion transaction, would it help to ensure that we are only promoting people who are truly ready for the next level?”
  3. It’s all about you. Follow a migration plan that aligns with your business lifecycle, so the transition does not disrupt existing operations while still taking full advantage of Redwood’s capabilities. Consider major annual events such as benefits enrolment and your performance review or compensation cycle when planning your upgrade.
  4. Don’t take the big bang approach. We encourage clients to migrate to Redwood incrementally and in phases. It is ideal to prioritise the pages and modules with less personalisation, and then move to personalised, complex pages. In addition, several modules in Oracle HCM have been on Redwood UX for several releases such as Performance and Goals, Talent Management, and Oracle Learning. This ensures greater success with your Redwood rollout as your team gains confidence with the simpler processes before moving on to the complex ones typically present in Recruitment and Global HR.
  5. Utilise the Oracle Personalisation Helper Tool. Oracle prioritised the ability to migrate existing configuration and certain default-based AutoComplete rules when moving to Redwood UX. This will be extremely important if you have recently implemented Oracle HCM and want minimal downtime when completing your migration. The HCM Personalisation Helper ToolOpens in a new window enables you to do this.
