UK citizens with EEA registration certificates can apply for a national permanent residence permit in Hungary with favourable conditions till the end of this year. This also applies to those who haven't obtained this immigration certificate yet but can prove that they were already living in Hungary in 2020. According to the immigration regulations, the EEA registration certificates of UK nationals remain valid until 31 December 2021 and although the state of emergency-related regulations might extend the expiry date by 60 days, such extension would not apply to the deadline for submitting the application for the national permanent residence permit with favourable conditions. Missing the deadline of 31 December 2021 means missing the chance to obtain a national permanent residence permit in a simplified procedure.
As a consequence of Brexit, UK nationals could lose their right to work in Hungary without permission, however, by obtaining a national permanent residence permit they can continue working without having to obtain prior permission to work. UK nationals, as well as their employers, should pay attention to the year-end deadline, as missing it would result in stopping working in Hungary. Obtaining the national permanent residence permit in time can guarantee maintaining the right to work without permission in Hungary.
