On Saturday 20 March four extremely talented local musicians lined up for the final of the ‘PwC Jersey Young Musician of the Year 2021’, which was broadcast online by the Jersey Music Service.
Each finalist had already won the island title for their respective instrument category and they were all strong contenders for the title of ‘PwC Jersey Young Musician of the Year’. The competition is part of Jersey Music Service’s provision of opportunities for young musicians in Jersey. In its 29th year, this year it incorporated the well-established sectional competitions for String, Woodwind, Brass and Voice.
The four finalists were adjudicated by Amos Miller, Head of Brass at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. A special video of the finalists’ performances and results was announced during the virtual broadcast.
There was great excitement when it was announced that 15 year old Charlie Dicker of Les Quennevais School had been crowned the PwC Jersey Young Musician of the Year 2021 for his stunning vocal performance. Only the second vocalist ever to win the coveted title, Charlie beat off strong competition from the other finalists, including:
