PwC launches Sustainability Academy in Lagos

LAGOS, 27 January 2025 – PwC has launched its Sustainability Academy in Lagos, which is one of the diverse offerings at the PwC Nigeria Business School.

Speaking, Femi Osinubi, Partner and Consulting and Risk Services Leader at PwC Nigeria, stated:

“Launching our Sustainability Academy is significant for us at PwC Nigeria. This Academy is our flagship programme dedicated to equipping professionals with the knowledge, skills, and tools to navigate the complexities of the sustainability landscape. In an era where reskilling and upskilling are critical to achieving sustainability goals, the Academy is designed to empower business leaders and professionals with actionable strategies to lead their organisations boldly into the future.

The timing of this launch could not be more appropriate. Sustainability is no longer just a boardroom topic; it is a core driver of strategy, resilience, and value creation. However, it also comes with challenges—balancing immediate pressures with long-term goals, aligning internal capabilities, and staying ahead of regulatory and market expectations. This is why upskilling is paramount. We at PwC have decided to be at the heart of driving the right knowledge rooted in real-world insights, innovative strategies, and harnessing the requisite expertise needed to drive value for organisations through the lens of sustainability.

Commenting, Marilyn Obaisa-Osula, Partner and Head, ESG, Sustainability & Climate Change, PwC Nigeria, said:

“Sustainability has often been seen as a 'good to have' rather than a strategic imperative. Today, we are shifting that narrative by launching the PwC’s Sustainability Academy, which aims to bridge knowledge gaps and equip industry leaders with the tools needed to navigate the dynamic ESG regulatory ecosystem.

Embracing compliance as a strategic opportunity can reduce costs, improve margins, and increase brand value, resulting in sustainable top-line growth. By aligning environmental and social responsibility with business success, companies can position themselves as leaders in an increasingly interconnected market.

Knowledge is the way forward, not just for sustainability professionals, but for leaders in diverse organisations and all stakeholders. One of the greatest challenges for organisations in becoming more strategic with sustainability is the knowledge gap. However, one of our greatest successes at PwC has been in teaching sustainability both internally and externally, leading to several transformations within our teams and our clients. We believe that capacity building is the bridge between ambition and action and business resilience in our ever changing world. Through the Sustainability Academy, we aim to foster a community of sustainability leaders who are prepared to tackle today’s challenges and shape tomorrow’s opportunities.”

Commenting, Uloma Ojinmah, Partner and PwC Business School Leader, stated:

“The Sustainability Academy exemplifies our dedication to sustainability. It is one of our academies amongst others offered by PwC Nigeria’s Business School.

The insights from the recently held sustainability breakfast meeting have highlighted the critical importance of capacity building in sustainability, emphasising that it is a multi stakeholder requirement. At our Sustainability Academy, participants will benefit from our extensive network capabilities and industry-specific expertise, receiving in-depth training.

Our Sustainability Academy is founded on three key pillars: knowledge, skills, and impact. Through carefully curated programmes, the Academy will address essential areas such as sustainability reporting, sustainable finance, the carbon market, and the reskilling and upskilling necessary to build resilient, future-ready teams. In addition, we offer a range of sustainability e-learning programs, including bespoke training tailored for organisations.

This Academy is truly a dream come true, and we are excited to lead the way in fostering sustainable practices across industries. Registration for the first session on the A-Z of Sustainability Reporting is ongoing.”
