PwC Philippines’ Atty. Alexander B. Cabrera presided over the Justice Reform Initiative’s (JRI) 2023 Justice Survey Results Digital Launch during the 2024 Justice Summit on 1 February 2024 at the Makati Diamond Residences, Makati City.
The Summit, entitled “Freedom through Justice Reforms,” is the biggest joint undertaking of JRI and the Supreme Court of the Philippines.
Atty. Alex is Chairman Emeritus of Isla Lipana & Co. as well as Managing Partner at Cabrera & Company. Both entities are Philippine member firms of the PwC network (i.e., PwC Philippines). He is concurrently the Vice Chairman of JRI.
The 2023 Justice Survey is a collaboration between JRI and PwC Philippines to determine the public perception on the Philippine judicial system, particularly on the emerging themes of Integrity, Decorum, Courts Processes, Reforms Awareness, and Technological Upgrades. Responses were gathered from professionals in the legal and business sector, among others, during the third quarter of 2023.
Atty. Alex shared his insights on the survey results, and key recommendations from the consultative workshops held in November 2023 and January 2024. He also presented during the feedback session entitled “Integrity: Non-Negotiable,” highlighting integrity and its integration with the four guiding principles of the SC Strategic Plan for Judicial Innovations (SPJI) 2022–2027: (1) timely and fair justice, (2) transparent and accountable justice, (3) equal and inclusive justice, and (4) technologically adaptive management. He emphasized the significance of integrity in achieving SPJI's targeted outcomes. The SPJI is anchored on the constitutional mandate of the Judiciary to deliver speedy and equal justice for all.
Gracing the Summit were Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo, Associate Justice Amy C. Lazaro-Javier, Associate Justice Henri Jean Paul B. Inting, Associate Justice Rodil V. Zalameda, Associate Justice Jhosep Y. Lopez, Associate Justice Antonio T. Kho, Jr., and Associate Justice Maria Filomena D. Singh. Judges, lawyers and business executives were also in attendance. The Chief Justice and other Justices, as well as business leaders, gave positive feedback towards the survey results.
