This is constructed in the context of our Global Purpose Statement - ‘To build trust in society and solve important problems’.
In addition to that, we have a Global Tax Code of Conduct setting clear principles to assist our people in the judgements they make in advising clients on tax matters.
Governments enact laws and enter into treaties with other nations so as to determine how companies and other taxpayers should be taxed. These laws are then interpreted by taxpayers, taxing authorities and, ultimately on occasion, by the courts.
It is a general principle that taxpayers have a right to manage their tax affairs provided they act within the law. Equally they should also be able to access independent advice on their tax position. However, the global nature of the business world together with the complexity and competing priorities of national laws - including tax competition amongst nations - is such that it is not always clear where lines should be drawn. In order to assist with this, the member firms of the PwC1 Network act according to the following Global Tax Code of Conduct.
