For the second year, PwC has been engaged in mentoring school principals as part of the DofE’s Diamond Award Project. Two of our partners, Ivo Dolezal and Stefan Cupil, are mentoring the Directors of the high schools, each partner 1 director. Ivo leads the Director of Metodova Gymnasium in Bratislava and Stevo leads the Director of Gymnasium Ludovita Stura in Michalovce.
The Diamond Award is a programme to develop the leadership and communication skills of school management. In the 2021/2022 school year, 17 headmasters from five Slovak regions participated in it. A mentor from the business sector accompanies a headmaster and a selected schoolteacher (DofE coordinator at a school) with setting and meeting goals. Mentors are senior business leaders, whose role is to support and mentor headmasters and DofE coordinators in individual areas of management and personal development. Mentors from the business sector are Senior Managers with extensive experience in creating and setting a vision and strategy with a team, building and leading a team, motivating and developing staff, performing appraisals with employees, and with the motivation to improve the education sector via direct personal involvement.
On the other hand, attending several full-day workshops with top lecturers is of great benefit for headmasters. They receive support from mentors from leading companies who help them with their personal development and improve their communication and leadership skills
