Measuring the environmental impact of a product or company is a complex task. It requires company/product knowledge and data across the entire supply chain. There are several methods for measuring a product’s environmental impact – one of the most used is an analysis of a product’s life cycle (life-cycle assessment). This analysis also includes an assessment of a product’s impact on global warming by measuring GHG emissions (carbon footprint) and an assessment of its impact on water resources, the availability of mineral resources, etc. Therefore, measuring the carbon footprint is part of a product’s life cycle assessment.
