Faculty Newsletter - January 2025

Dear Friends in Academia,

Happy New Year! We are thrilled to share some exciting updates with you this month including new classroom resources – a business simulation and tax case. We hope you enjoy our update.

NEW – Accountants have impACCT Business Simulation

We are excited to release our business simulation which was designed to be easily incorporated into introductory accounting courses. The simulation is a 30-40 minute immersive experience featuring a young technology company bundling video games, music, movies and podcasts on a single platform. The two co-founders look to their accountant (the learner) for accounting insights for making key business decisions for 5 scenarios. Each critical decision is made using fundamental accounting concepts to help gain a deep understanding of how accounting principles directly influence the financial health and overall success of a business.

In addition to our new business simulation, we are again highlighting our video series that was released in the fall. Each 5-minute episode integrates basic accounting concepts with real-world examples, demonstrating their profound impact on business, markets and investors. Topics include: balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows, inventory, accruals, cyber security, fraud, ESG, SEC Reporting. You can access the simulation, videos and more information on our Faculty Resources site (request access).

NEW – International Tax Excel Case

We are excited to release our new International Tax Excel Case that is recommended for use in a graduate level class. These materials are designed to help students understand the US tax implications of international transactions through a detailed case study involving a fictitious organization. The exercise uses an Excel file with multiple interconnected tabs, each representing different aspects of international taxation. The final goal is to compute the US tax implications and understand how these calculations would impact the final taxable income and tax due after foreign tax credits. Additionally, the effective tax rate calculation for a 10-K report can also be demonstrated. You can access the simulation, videos and more information on our Faculty Resources site (request access).

AAA Pipeline Webinar with PwC Replay

In case you missed it, this webinar discussed how GenAI and other emerging technologies are affecting business models and processes and included suggestions for incorporating examples into the introductory accounting courses. Additionally, you will learn about our new Accountants have impACCT resources for the Principles courses, including a library of short videos and a brief business simulation. Watch the replay here.
