Climate change and environment

Make your climate actions count

Climate change stands at the forefront of Canadian organizations' agendas, intensifying the imperative to reimagine established business models. Rising physical and transitional risks, evolving regulations and approaching 2030 and 2050 net-zero milestones are creating a clear call to action: achieve more by using less to deliver enhanced outcomes for all stakeholders. This is the very challenge we embrace alongside Canadian organizations.

Through our human-centric, tech-enabled approach, we tailor solutions to each organization’s distinct needs based on their sector, business model and climate ambition.

Our commitment is to help businesses forge lasting value through strategic foresight and technology.

We combine our Canadian and global sustainability expertise with powerful technology from our Alliance ecosystems and data-driven insights to help organizations develop a climate strategy, transform their operations, create value and report on their impact. We provide a holistic range of services that includes target setting, climate risk management, impact measurement and disclosures.

We’re actively advancing climate action. This includes working with leading standard-setting bodies to shape the future of sustainability reporting in Canada and prepare both public-sector and business leaders for new disclosure requirements. And our sector-specific insights help you benchmark your progress and enhance your sustainability ratings, competitiveness and reputation.

How we can help

Decarbonization strategy and levers

Tackling climate change involves understanding your impact and developing a comprehensive strategy-led plan for action. This includes establishing your ambitions, setting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions targets, creating mitigation scenarios, pinpointing the cost and feasibility of various decarbonization approaches and drafting transition plans to achieve your net-zero goals. In this process, it’s valuable to consider dependencies and enablers, such as physical and transition risks, nature and biodiversity, diversity and human rights. Additionally, adopting technologies and solutions that enhance your data quality and alignment with industry standards can accelerate your emissions reduction journey, supporting your broader climate goals and transition to a net-zero economy.

Our services include:

  • detailed Climate Transition Plans, including governance, monitoring, KPI development and integration with enterprise risk management;
  • GHG inventories (Scope, 1, 2 and 3) and supporting tools;
  • emissions data and data quality advice;
  • financed and insurance-related emissions quantification;
  • GHG target setting and decarbonization strategy;
  • supply chain decarbonization.

Climate risk and resilience

Climate change poses acute and chronic physical risks from extreme weather, transitional risks due to evolving technologies, regulations, policies and stakeholder expectations, and liability risks for companies. The speed at which these changes are occurring requires organizations to understand how climate change affects their operational resilience and assess relevant mitigation and adaptation measures to manage risks. We help public- and private-sector organizations build capabilities, tools and processes to understand and mitigate their climate-related risk exposure.

Our approach draws on our deep climate expertise, industry knowledge, risk modelling and management approaches, and advanced analytics to support you with:

  • climate scenario analysis to assess exposure, vulnerability and overall impact arising from physical and transitional climate-related risks and opportunities;

  • climate data analytics to map climate risks to your company’s assets and supply chain under multiple future scenarios;

  • operational and financial impact quantification of climate-related risks and opportunities;

  • climate adaptation plans, including response measures to address risks, cost-benefit analyses, KPI monitoring and processes and governance measures to integrate climate risk into strategy, enterprise risk management and capital planning.

Climate reporting and assurance

As your organization tackles climate change, it's important to share your progress and build trust in your reporting. Aligning with leading climate-related reporting standards involves disclosing your organization’s climate strategy, governance and oversight, approach to managing material risks and opportunities, and performance on key metrics against your targets.

Our sustainability reporting team can help you understand the impact of new regulations on your company. This includes reviewing your current alignment to standards and regulations, pinpointing gaps and opportunities to improve data collection and reporting and analyzing controls—guiding you toward a more robust reporting process.

Our services include:

  • climate-related reporting strategy;

  • B-15 reporting advice, strategy and services;

  • disclosure gap assessments;

  • materiality assessments;

  • process, controls and governance advice;

  • KPI maturity and reporting readiness advisory;

  • limited and reasonable assurance;

  • emissions and other environmental verification including for regulatory reporting;

  • ISO-aligned verification and advice.
