Education

There are commercial preschools available in all areas. While the standard of care is usually high, the programs available may not be as advanced as you would be used to. Children can go up to five days a week. The international schools now run preschools where children attend five days a week. Some employers cover preschool fees.

All centres have international primary and high schools. Teachers and students are a mix of Papua New Guineans and expatriates. The curriculum follows that of New South Wales (Australia). The truly international flavour of the schools provides a rich and stimulating learning environment for children.

Religion

PNG is a predominantly Christian country with churches from all the main denominations found in the larger centres.

Food & dining

There are numerous supermarkets in major centres that stock the necessities and even specialised grocery items. Port Moresby has a variety of hotels, restaurants and coffee shops which cater international flavours.

Shopping

In Port Moresby, there are specialty shops that carry various apparels, toys, home ware, sporting goods and electronics. Local arts and crafts and souvenirs are also available in craft markets.

Entertainment

There are two cinemas in Port Moresby which show the latest Hollywood movies. There are also modern bars and night clubs in the city. Also, watch out for festivals where you can witness traditional dancing, singing and culture.
