While planning your visit to Ukraine, you need to check whether you need a visa. If a visa is required, it must be obtained at the Ukrainian consulate in the country of your citizenship or residency, or online (“e-Visa”).
Regardless of where you are from and why you come to Ukraine, make sure that you have an invitation letter from your inviting Ukrainian party. You may be asked at the border to confirm the purpose of your visit, and this is where the invitation will be helpful. If you are a tourist, confirmation of your hotel booking and/or return tickets will be acceptable.
Check the terms of your permitted stay in Ukraine, depending on the country of your citizenship.
If you are a citizen of a country that has a visa-free regime with Ukraine - you can stay up to 90 calendar days within a 180 days period (with few exceptions). See details below.

If you plan to stay in Ukraine longer than the term allowed by the visa-free regime or by your visa, you need to obtain a temporary residence permit (TRP).
The main grounds for applying for a TRP:
You are a founder or shareholder of a Ukrainian company
You are employed or seconded to work in Ukraine
You are reuniting with your family member who is a citizen of Ukraine
You are reuniting with your family member who holds a Ukrainian TRP
In this case, the special long-term visa “type D” must be obtained beforehand. Consult us to learn more.
To apply for the TRP you must visit the migration authorities personally. Once you have the TRP, you need to register your place of your residence in Ukraine. You need to reside in an apartment and your landlord must give the consent to such registration. Registration in a hotel is not possible. Consult us to learn more.
If you plan to work in a Ukrainian company as a local employee or a secondee, that company must obtain a work permit for your before you start the work. Your direct involvement in this process is not required.
The work permit is a ground for obtaining a long-term visa “type D” and, subsequently, a temporary residence permit.
