Importation of the following is exempt from customs duties:
two cell phones
two laptops
one camera
other personal possessions for daily use
Remember, you should submit a declaration to the customs (i.e. choose the “red” channel at the border crossing) when:
you travel with a pet – an international veterinary certificate must be in place
you travel by plane with new goods (new purchases) with a value in excess of EUR 1,000
you travel by car or train with goods with a value in excess of EUR 500 or with a weight in excess of 50 kg
Goods exceeding the above limits (prepare bills to confirm the value) are subject to
10% import duties and
20% VAT
You may send a parcel with your possessions to Ukraine but you are always required to define its value. If the value is:
up to EUR 100 – no taxes
from EUR 100 to 150 – 20% VAT
more than EUR 150 – 20% VAT + 10% import duties
If you received a permanent residence permit you may import a car and personal belongings without import duties.
If you travel with your own car, don’t forget the following:
Documents confirming that the car is yours
Registration documents from your country
International insurance policy “green card”.
This will help you to avoid paying any customs duties.
You must get temporary license plates within 30 days after entry.
After 1 year from entry you are required to either
export the car from Ukraine; or
file a customs declaration and pay import duties, excise, VAT and contribution to the compulsory state pension insurance (during car registration).
Attention! Cars produced in Russia are restricted to import to Ukraine. You may check the country of manufacture by the VIN code of your car.
