Almost all settlements in Ukraine are in Ukrainian Hryvnia (UAH) only. However, you might not even notice this if you use your Visa or MasterCard, which are widely accepted by many retail outlets, hotels, and restaurants (especially in Kyiv and other big cities).
Settlements in foreign currency in Ukraine are allowed only in duty-free shops and in certain specific cases - consult with us if you need more details.
However, as a precaution, we recommend having some cash at hand. You may easily withdraw it from ATMs or purchase UAH at foreing exchange offices.
Don’t forget to declare your cash if you bring more than EUR 10,000 into Ukraine (failure to do so may lead to confiscation of the surplus)!
Funds earned or left in Ukraine can be transferred abroad in one of the following ways:
Remitted via bank transfer. If you have more than UAH 400,000 left in your accounts, be ready to provide documents, confirming the lawful source of the funds and the payment of all applicable taxes in Ukraine.
Withdrawn in cash and moved across the border. If you have more than the equivalent of EUR 10,000, you will need to declare them at the customs.
