PwC Estonia conducted an impact analysis on self-service pharmacies for Accelerate Estonia. The objective of the study was to evaluate ways to enhance access to medicines, decrease the burden on the healthcare system, and offer a flexible solution in various situations, including crisis scenarios.
The analysis concluded that the implementation of self-service pharmacies, where pharmacists are available for consultation via video prior to purchase, could significantly improve the 24-hour availability of medicines. This innovative solution would enable a single pharmacist to provide guidance to patients across Estonia, irrespective of their location. This solution could reduce the burden on ambulances and emergency rooms, particularly in rural areas.
The analysis was conducted by Consulting Manager Erki Raja and Senior Consultant Raiko Puustusmaa.
