I wanted a dynamic career. In Deals, you get to work on different projects, solving a range of important problems and working with different team members. You also get the chance to experience lots of different industries. You could find yourself working in energy, technology, hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing, information technology, telecommunications, agriculture, software, food processing, banking sector and many more.
I have also developed cross-cutting skills including data analytics, operational restructuring, financial restructuring, insolvency, valuations, mergers and acquisitions, financial modelling, financial due diligence and forensics.
The rotations I’ve done on the Edge graduate programme have not only helped me to make more informed career decisions, but also enhanced my skills, making me a rounded and capable professional. The variety is important to me and keeps the job fresh.
You can still be a robust Deals practitioner even if you don’t initially have a finance or business background, as long as you have an interest in learning some finance and business. You’ll also get on-the-job training and coaching.
The journey to completing my Professional Qualification was a smooth one, especially as I discovered finance/accounting require the same aptitude as a STEM degree, i.e. numerical and analytical skills. I was able to fit in with those who came from a business/ finance background – in fact I received an award in one of the courses in CPA (Certified Public Accountant) for exceptional performance.
