Student activism has significantly increased its momentum in recent years, moving beyond campus boundaries and into boardrooms of businesses.

Students are becoming more aware of their ability to influence policies in the business sector and bring about constructive change. Student movements that focus on social justice, environmental sustainability, moral business conduct, and corporate responsibility have a rich history all around the world.

Students have historically been at the forefront of the movement for social change, using their voices, energy, and idealism to confront pressing societal problems. Throughout its history, Kunsill Studenti Universitarji (KSU) has been at the forefront of advocating for improvements in the education system and student well-being.

It has actively engaged with the University of Malta and other relevant stakeholders to push for reforms and enhancements in academic programs, infrastructure, and support services. By lobbying for student-centred policies and initiatives, KSU has strived to create a conducive and empowering environment for all students.

The effects of student action, however, are no longer limited to University boundaries. As young activists become aware of the need to have an impact on policy at its heart, it has developed into a force that is also felt in the professional business sector.

Environmental sustainability is one area where student action has had a considerable impact. Students have been instrumental in pressuring businesses to adopt more sustainable practices as concerns about climate change and environmental degradation grow. Student activists have raised awareness, stressed the significance of sustainability, and called on corporations to prioritise their environmental obligations through demonstrations, protests, and successful campaigns. As a result, many businesses have adopted sustainable policies and integrated eco-friendly procedures into their supply chains and operations.

Corporate governance and responsible leadership have been significantly influenced by student activism. Businesses are being pushed to reassess their governance systems as young activists question outdated practices and call for more responsibility. Students have demanded ethical leadership, openness in executive decision-making, and the consideration of many perspectives at the highest levels of management. Their activism resulted in modifications to corporate governance procedures, encouraging more accountable and inclusive leadership in boardrooms across a range of industries.

The journey from campus to the boardroom is not one without challenges. Student activists often face resistance from powerful corporate interests, scepticism, and a lack of financial support. However, they have been successful in overcoming these challenges thanks to their enthusiasm, tenacity, and determination. Student activists have been able to amplify their voices and demand policy changes inside the corporate world through smart collaborations, partnerships, and utilising the power of social media.
