The PwC Sustainability Trophy

The Concept

Designing a trophy for the PwC Sustainability Awards is a meaningful endeavor that necessitates thoughtful attention to purpose, brand alignment, materials, and presentation.

By adhering to these principles, the trophy, not only honours outstanding achievements in sustainability, but also reflects PwC’s commitment to innovation and social responsibility, leaving a lasting impact on recipients and stakeholders alike.

The Trophy

The PwC Sustainability trophy is made entirely from recycled/recryable materials. This eco-friendly design not only symbolises our commitment to sustainability but also serves as a reminder of the importance of reducing waste and supporting a circular economy.

The coveted trophies of the PwC Sustainability Awards were created by Jonathan Burtenshaw.

Materials

The trophies are crafted using recycled/recyclable materials, including plastic sourced from used bottle caps, in collaboration with Mission Verte. Aluminium is also used, which is infinitely recyclable and sourced in sheets from Mauritius. For the wooden part of the trophies, high-quality beech wood are selected from FSC-certified forests in Europe, along with sustainable wood supplies from Port Louis.

These materials reflect a dedication to environmental responsibility and ensure that each trophy is a beautiful and meaningful recognition of achievement.

Glue is an integral part of the process, with water-based glue selected for its compatibility with wood. For the aluminum and plastic components, screws are employed to hold them together. A wooden support is then inserted through both the aluminum and plastic, enabling them to be securely bonded.

About the Artist

Jon Burtenshaw is a talented designer with a background in fine art and 3D design from Cambridge, UK, and further studies in furniture and product design near London. Five years ago, he embarked on a creative journey when a local cricket club sought a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic awards.

This initial project ignited a passion for crafting bespoke wooden awards, which have since become the cornerstone of his business. Jon's creations not only prioritise sustainability but also offer personalised touches that reflect the unique values of each company and the rich history of their events. Through his work, he transforms recognition into meaningful, lasting treasures.

Awards are like small sculptures that are given to reward, or mark an event. They should be something that are to be displayed and be proud of, and that can last a long time.
