PwC Thailand appoints Soo Hoo Khoon Yean as interim Chief Executive Officer and Mekong Territory Senior Partner
 

What was announced?

• PwC Thailand has announced a leadership change following Chanchai Chaiprasit’s decision to step down from his role as Mekong Territory Senior Partner and Chief Executive Officer for personal reasons, effective 15 January 2024. 
• The PwC Mekong territory consists of PwC Thailand, PwC Laos and PwC Cambodia.

What changes are involved?

Soo Hoo Khoon Yean has been appointed by the Mekong Partners as the interim Chief Executive Officer of PwC Thailand and Mekong Territory Senior Partner with immediate effect. Soo Hoo is currently serving as PwC Malaysia’s Managing Partner and the Territory Senior Partner of the PwC Malaysia-Vietnam (MYVN) firm, in addition to being the Chairman of PwC’s South East Asia Consulting practice.

Q1. Why did these changes occur?

The leadership change follows Chanchai Chaiprasit’s decision to step down from his role as Mekong Territory Senior Partner and CEO of PwC Thailand for personal reasons.

Q2. Will this change impact clients, stakeholders, employees and operations at PwC Thailand?

• The recent leadership change will not have any impact on our clients, stakeholders or organisational management. Business operations continue as usual, and we remain dedicated to delivering exceptional work to our clients and stakeholders., as well as continuously upskilling our people.
• Although there has been a change in leadership, it will not affect PwC’s ‘The New Equation’ strategy.

Q3. Why was Soo Hoo Khoon Yean appointed as interim CEO of PwC Thailand and Mekong Territory Senior Partner?

That decision ensures the continuity of our commitment to being client-centric and delivering quality services seamlessly during this transitional period. The Mekong Partners is confident that Soo Hoo possesses the knowledge and capabilities to effectively serve as the Interim CEO of PwC Thailand and Mekong Territory Senior Partner. He will oversee the firm’s operations until a new CEO is selected.

Q4. What is Soo Hoo Khoon Yean’s work experience prior to his appointment as interim CEO of PwC Thailand and Mekong Territory Senior Partner? 

Soo Hoo has over 31 years of experience in providing audit and advisory services to clients in the financial services industry across Malaysia and the region. We are confident that Soo Hoo will lead PwC Thailand and PwC Mekong to achieve its purpose, which is to solve important problems, explore new business models and new opportunities. This will help support clients to build trust with stakeholders, and deliver greater sustained outcomes.
