Tax Leader, PwC Malaysia
Steve Chia is the Tax Leader at PwC Malaysia. He spearheads the firm’s tax strategy and drives key initiatives.
He has more than 25 years of experience in PwC Malaysia, undertaking high value tax and business consulting projects for clients in various industries. This includes property development and construction, real estate investments, logistics and ports, infrastructure, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, trading and education.
He has worked on a variety of assignments, such as operational restructuring, devising tax-efficient structures for privatisation projects, enhancing international tax efficiencies through corporate structure reviews, tax financial modelling, facilitating cross-border transactions, and navigating incentive and regulatory processes with government agencies.
A regular presenter at tax and accounting conferences, Steve is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), a Council Member with the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (CTIM) and holds membership with the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA).
He was a member of the Public Finance Reform Lab under the Strategic Reform Initiatives championed by Malaysia's Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU). He has also worked closely with various regulators including the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), to contribute on tax issues and policies. He is currently an approved income tax agent with the Malaysian Finance Ministry and a tax examiner for a leading professional accounting body based in the UK.
Outside work, he looks forward to spending time with his family, travelling and having his ‘me’ time to re-energise as well as exercising to keep himself healthy and alert.
