PwC Malaysia was appointed by the government of Malaysia to augment the overall programme management effort for the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme.

PwC worked alongside the Malaysian cross ministry COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) led by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) with cooperation from Ministry of Health (MOH) from March to October 2021 and played a pivotal role in enabling vaccines to be provided to everyone residing in Malaysia in an efficient and effective manner. PwC's role included the following:

  • Readiness assessment across the vaccines-to-vaccinations roadmap for critical workstreams prior to the nationwide roll out of the Immunisation Programme

  • Augmentating the CITF Programme Management Office (PMO) to drive the day-to-day coordination, accountability and implementation across the Immunisation Programme

  • Support in the planning and set-up of vaccination centres, including high capacity mega vaccination centres

  • Formulation and monitoring of national and state level vaccination targets and KPIs

  • Supply-demand-utilisation optimisation analytics and monitoring support

  • Monitoring the appointments management process and public support channels

  • Risk assessments, programme assurance and reporting.

Outcomes of the programme:
  • Malaysia became one of the fastest countries globally for daily vaccination rate per capita

  • The delivery and completion of the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme targets was achieved four months ahead of schedule (initially targeted for February 2022)
  • A notable drop in COVID-19 admissions, critical hospitalisation and deaths across the nation was observed as the programme progressed

  • Completing the vaccination programme ahead of schedule was critical in easing restrictions for individuals and businesses in order to kickstart the revival of the economy

  • As of mid February 2022, over 98% of the adult population in Malaysia are fully vaccinated. Additionally, 89% of adolescents (aged 12 to 17) have been fully vaccinated and over 55% of the adult population have also received boosters
  • This successful National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme continues with the administration of booster doses for adults and the commencement of vaccination for children aged 5 to 11 by the Ministry of Health (MOH).
