Summary
Climate Tech Insights is part of our Ventures Perspectives series where we speak to entrepreneurs and senior leadership from the flourishing Middle East tech ecosystem, as well as industry experts about startup valuations, growth strategy and climate tech innovations.
In this episode, we sit with Jane Glavan, co-founder of Distant Imagery, a UAE based company that utilises drone technology to restore mangroves and collect valuable environmental data.
Jane explains how their unique ecologically-driven methodology mimics nature's restoration process and uses drone technology to speed up and make the process more efficient, allowing them to successfully restore mangroves through drone planting.
Jane discusses how Distant Imagery came to be “the very first technology business that has been able to do mangrove restoration work through the power of proprietary drones,” and how they have successfully been able to navigate acquiring substantial contracts to help them boost their success.
Driven by her own interest in sustainability, Jane emphasises the importance of networking and building meaningful connections to find purpose led partnerships that can provide opportunities to enable you to build and grow.
Jane also explains how Distant Imagery has benefited from being based in the United Arab Emirates, as the region has “this fearlessness to build new tech and find new solutions,” she says, plus “this ferocity - this love of trying new things,” that encourages an entrepreneurial spirit.
As a female founder, Jane implores other female founders to embrace those moments that set them out of their comfort zones, as those are the moments that will help them learn, grow and succeed.
