Our methodology

There were four parts to our Awards methodology:

Who qualifies

Bursa Malaysia Top 50 public-listed companies in Malaysia

Initial shortlist: Integrated Reporting <IR>

We benchmarked the annual reports of the Bursa Malaysia Top 50 companies above RM 1 billion market capitalisation against the <IR> Framework using PwC’s benchmarking tool.

A detailed assessment of 110 questions was performed on the companies’ annual reports to find out where the Malaysian market stands in embracing integrated reporting, a new approach to corporate reporting. The questions were based on the Content Elements for an integrated report based on the IIRC’s Integrated Reporting Framework.

The assessment focused on the quality of the information presented by companies in key reporting documents and how well that information was integrated/linked together.

Public perception profiles

The Top 10 companies from the <IR> benchmarking were then assigned a public perception or trust profile, using a tool developed by our PwC UK colleagues.

This tool is a tried-and-tested service that we offer to our clients.

Independent judging panel

The last stage of our methodology was to appoint an international panel of non-PwC judges to ensure independence in the selection of the winners. Our judges are:

1. Sir David Tweedie (Chief Judge & Former Chairman, International Accounting Standards Board)

2. Belinda Gibson (Former Deputy Chairman, Australian Securities and Investments Commission; Non-Executive Director, Citigroup Pty Ltd)

3. Goh Ching Yin (Executive Director – Strategy & Development, Securities Commission)
