Polaris is our soft skills workshop programme. 2017 marked our 8^th year running the programme at Methodist Girls’ School Kuala Lumpur, reaching out to Form 4 students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

This programme is aimed at helping students build confidence and improve communication skills, essential ingredients that will ensure smoother transition from school to university and later, from university to the workplace. Our people volunteer as mentors, sharing practical tips and knowledge that the students can then apply to their daily life.

In 2017, we had 4 workshops that covered the following topics:

Goal Setting
Self Confidence and Negative Self-talk
Online Social Etiquette (Netiquette)
Speed Career (Jobs Bingo)

Number of workshops in the image above includes the workshops for MGS Kuala Lumpur and the workshop in Johor Bahru.

Our colleagues in Johor Bahru also ran a Polaris workshop in September 2017 collaborating with Teach for Malaysia (TFM) on the topic of Goal Setting. 37 students from 5 different schools under the TFM programme in Johor Bahru participated in the workshop.

In the future, we plan to expand this programme to a new school in Kuala Lumpur and to get our Regional Offices on board as well.
