Kent Smith, CPA, CA is the leader of the National Capital Region & the Atlantic Canada Grants and Incentives Services groups. In his current role, he is focused on helping clients rethink and redevelop their back office function and operating models through process reviews and leveraging technology to reduce costs and mitigate risks.
Kent has more than 25 years of public accounting experience and has worked with a variety of organizations to develop a deep technical tax knowledge and driving tax-efficient structures. He has extensive experience working with companies to help them solve their technology, subsidy, and operational challenges across the country.
Kent graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa with a BComm in 1993, and he earned his CA designation in 1996. Over the recent years, Kent taught the SR&ED course for CPA Ontario five times. He was also part of a team that authored content released by the Canada Revenue Agency on the Allocation of Labour Expenditures for SR&ED.
Kent was Knighted by the Order of St. George, the Canadian Priory, an organization that maintains its timeless commitments to faithful service and to helping people in need. His investiture was in 2012. Kent was recognized by the Ottawa Business Journal as one of Ottawa’s “Forty Under 40” in 2007, an award that recognizes business people under the age of 40 who balance bottom line results with a desire to participate in charitable and community activities.
