Q: Why did I receive this cheque?

A: Individuals - You received this cheque because many years ago you (or possibly a family member who is now deceased) held an insurance policy with Northumberland, which went into liquidation in 1985. A claim was recorded in the estate in your name for the unearned portion of your insurance premium. This claim was paid in full. Eventually, there were also sufficient funds to pay interest on your claim ("Post-liquidation interest"). You have already been sent, and have deposited, two cheques in respect of Post-liquidation interest, in 2011 and 2014. This is the third and final payment.

Corporations - You received this cheque because many years ago you (or possibly a predecessor corporation) had an insurance policy with Northumberland, which went into liquidation in 1985. A claim was recorded in the estate in your name for the unearned portion of your insurance premium. This claim was paid in full. Eventually, there were also sufficient funds to pay interest on your claim ("Post-liquidation interest"). You have already been sent, and have deposited, two cheques in respect of Post-liquidation interest, in 2011 and 2014. This is the third and final payment.

Q: The person named on the cheque is now deceased, what do I do?

A: Please return the cheque to us with a copy of the death certificate and a legal document showing the name of the executor or beneficiary of the deceased’s estate, to whom payment should be reissued. Upon receipt of all required documents, we will issue a replacement cheque to the new beneficiary.

Q: I received my cheque via a redirection of mail. How do I update my address?

A: The cheque you received is a Final dividend, and no further payments will be issued, and as such an update to your address is not required.
