Bisnis Indonesia - Jalan tol Trans Sumatra: Target Hutama Karya melambung

10 April 2023

Jakarta - PT Hutama Karya (Persero) is targeting the operating revenue growth of Trans-Sumatra toll road to reach 141% this year.

Hutama Karya Corporate Secretary Executive Vice President Tjahjo Purnomo said that the optimism was based on the traffic volume that is predicted to surge during Eid 2023’s homecoming flow and return traffic.

“Bakauheni-Terbanggi Besar toll segment is predicted to be the segment with the largest revenue that will reach 155% of the normal revenue,” he said to Bisnis on Friday (7/4).

He predicts that the peak of the Eid 2023 homecoming flow on Trans-Sumatra toll road will occur two days and one day before Eid or on 20 April 2023 and 21 April 2023. However, the increase in traffic volume is predicted to occur seven days before Eid or on 15 April 2023.

Hutama Karya forecasts that the traffic volume on Trans-Sumatra toll road during Eid 2023 will reach 2.89 million vehicles, which is an increase of 0.48% from 2.88 million vehicles during Eid 2022.

Overall, traffic volume on all toll segments of Hutama Karya during Eid 2023 will only increase by 0.06% to 5.34 million vehicles. During last year’s Eid, traffic volume on all Hutama Karya toll roads reached 5.34 million vehicles.

On the other hand, Tjahjo said that the company has yet to provide discounts despite being encouraged by the State-owned Enterprises (SOE) Ministry.

“Hutama Karya is still studying the policy’s potential. Basically, we are supporting the government’s direction as the regulator in implementing the policy that is applied,” he explained.

Previously, Special Staff III to the SOE Minister Arya Sinulingga said that construction SOEs that operate homecoming routes would be encouraged to provide a discounted toll road tariff on important routes during the homecoming period.

“If people pass through toll roads of Hutama Karya and Waskita during homecoming, we will encourage them to provide a discount on certain routes. The SOE Minister through the toll road association is encouraging the provision of discounts on homecoming routes,” he said.

Moreover, Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono explained that discounts were one of the alternatives to reduce traffic jams during Eid 2023.

Basuki is still encouraging several toll road business entities (BUJTs) to provide discounts on homecoming routes during Eid 2023.

“Only Jasa Marga has proposed [a discount], but there are many BUJTs that we are encouraging as we cannot set the [discounted tariff]. It is an investment, so they need to propose it,” he explained.
