Jakarta - PT Hutama Karya (Persero) hopes that they can accelerate the operation of two Trans-Sumatra toll road segments that have just passed a series of functional viability tests to determine the readiness of the infrastructure.

PT Hutama Marga Waskita, one of the subsidiaries of Hutama Karya, reported that Indrapura-Kisaran toll segment section 1 (Indrapura-Limapuluh) that is part of Trans-Sumatra toll road spanning 15.6 kilometres (km) and Tebing Tinggi-Indrapura gate-to-gate toll segment (section 1 and some of section 2) spanning 28.3 km have passed the functional viability tests.

Hutama Karya Operations Director III Koentjoro said that the functional viability tests were conducted to test the toll segments’ technical specifications to meet traffic management and safety standards.

“Besides fulfilling the standards, we hope that we can accelerate the operation of the two toll segments to improve connectivity and support economic activities in North Sumatra,” he said on Tuesday (29/8).

Not only their specifications, the readiness of facilities on both toll segments is also one of the points in the scopes of the tests, which include the number of patrol cars, tow trucks, ambulances, and payment machines at toll gates.

Besides that, Hutama Karya’s management also emphasised that the functional viability tests were conducted to ensure that the toll segments could be opened as soon as possible with a satisfactory quality. So, they can improve the efficiency and shorten the travel time of the mobilisation of goods.

Tebing Tingg-Indrapura toll segment is a logistics backbone from and to Kuala Tanjung Port, it is also an access to Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (SEZ) via Indrapura-Kisaran toll segment.

The speed on Indrapura-Kisaran toll segment section I (Indrapura-Lima Puluh) is planned to reach 100 km per hour. Meanwhile, the speed on Tebing Tinggi-Indrapura gate-to-gate toll segment will reach 80 km per hour.
