Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to inaugurate Jabodebek Light Rail Transit (LRT) today (Monday, 28/8/2023). After it is inaugurated, LRT will immediately operate to be used by the public.

The Transportation Minister ensures that access from and to LRT stations has been excellently prepared.

On Sunday (27/8/2023), the Transportation Minister tried Jabodebek LRT again and visited several LRT stations, namely Cawang Station and Cikoko Station, to ensure the readiness of the rail-based modern transportation.

“Today, I am ensuring [the readiness of] all intermodal integration routes around Cikoko and Cawang. I am ensuring that the routes are operating excellently for passengers who use other modes of transportation to go from and to Jabodebek LRT,” the Transportation Minister said in his official statement after visiting Jabodebek LRT on Sunday (27/8/2023).

During the occasion, the Transportation Minister greeted the passengers of the public transportation to ensure the comfort of the intermodal integration. Besides that, the Transportation Minister also talked with LRT employees to ensure the readiness of the staff to serve Jabodebek LRT passengers during commercial operation.

Jabodebek LRT has 18 stations that have been integrated with several other modes of transportation, such as Commuter Line (KRL), Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) that includes Transit Patriot Bekasi and Transjabodetabek (Royal Trans), angkot, and others. Jabodebek LRT stations consist of Dukuh Atas, Setiabudi, Rasuna Said, Kuningan, Pancoran, Cikoko, Ciliwung, Cawang, TMII, Kampung Rambutan, Ciracas, Harjamukti, Halim, Jatibening Baru, Cikunir I, Cikunir II, Bekasi Barat, and Jatimulya.

Facilitating commuters

KAI Public Relations VP Joni Martinus said that Jabodebek LRT stations were located at strategic locations that include housing and business areas.

“The purpose is to facilitate commuters who want to travel from and to the capital city and other areas,” he said.

In terms of station access, Joni said that Jabodebek LRT stations have an advantage as they are integrated with other public transportation. For example, Dukuh Atas Station is located near Sudirman KRL Station, Dukuh Atas BNI MRT Station, KA Bandara BNI City Station, Transjakarta shelters, and other modes of transportation. There is also Halim Station that is integrated with Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway (KCJB) and is near Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport.

“Jabodebek LRT stations are located near other public transportation points. So, customers will find it easier to continue their travels using other public transportation,” he said.

Joni also explained that there were two types of LRT stations, namely interchange stations that consist of Cawang Station and typical stations that consist of the other 17 stations. The differences of the stations include their lanes, size, and additional facilities.

Interchange stations consist of three floors, where the first floor is the boarding and the commercial areas, the second floor is the platform area, and the third floor is the commercial area. Meanwhile, typical stations consist of two floors, where the first floor is the boarding area and the second floor is the platform area.

“Cawang Station is an interchange station as it is a transit station. Customers from Harjamukti Station who want to go to Jatimulya Station can stop at Cawang Station and change their train to Jatimulya Station, or vice versa,” Joni said.

To improve the comfort of customers at stations, Joni Martinus said that Jabodebek LRT stations were fitted with accessibility facilities, such as escalators, stairs, elevators, toilets, nursing rooms, musallas, healthcare rooms, passenger information display systems (PIDS), passenger announcement facilities, and CCTVs.

“The government and KAI are also making Jabodebek LRT stations disabled-friendly with elevators, [wheelchair] gates, accessibility toilets, and tactile [flooring]. The facilities are expected to facilitate disabled customers in using Jabodebek LRT,” Joni said.

To optimise services at stations, KAI has assigned staff who are ready to serve the customers. The staff include station supervisors, counter clerks, passenger service staff, cleaning service staff, healthcare officers, and security officers.

Meanwhile, Jabodebek LRT Public Relations Manager Kuswardoyo said that there was no parking area at Jabodebek LRT stations. However, Jabodebek LRT is cooperating with various parties to provide parking areas at several Jabodebek LRT stations, especially at last stops such as Dukuh Atas Station, Harjamukti Station, and Jatimulya Station.

“We are preparing parking areas as we see that there is demand from people who drive from their homes to the stations to continue their journey with Jabodebek LRT,” Kuswardoyo said.

Several parking areas that have been prepared for Jabodebek LRT are located at Dukuh Atas Station at Landmark Centre Building, Rasuna Said Station at Rasuna Epicentrum, Cikoko Station at MTH Tower, Jatibening Baru Station at LRT City Jatibening, and Cikunir 2 Station at LRT City Cikunir.

Other parking areas are located at Bekasi Barat Station at Revo Mall, Jatimulya Station at LRT City Jati Mulya, Kampung Rambutan Station at Kampung Rambutan Terminal, Ciracas Station at LRT City Ciracas, and Harjamukti Station at LRT City Cibubur, Wiladantika Park, and Cibubur Junction.

“The parking areas are expected to encourage the people to use Jabodebek LRT as a public transportation to reduce traffic jams,” he said.
