1 August 2023

Jakarta - PT Kereta Api Indonesia Commuter (KAI Commuter) is implementing the dynamic capacity rule for commuter line trips that use the economy class in Region 8 Surabaya on 1 August 2023. KAI Commuter Corporate Secretary VP Anne Purba said that the policy was in line with Letter from Railways Directorate General of Transportation Ministry No. M.006.3/9/K2//DJKA/2023 dated 17 July 2023 on Passenger Capacity Adjustment.

“KAI Commuter is adjusting the dynamic capacity of 16 regional commuter line services or local trains in Region 2 Bandung and Region 8 Surabaya,” Eva said in her official statement on Monday (31/7/2023).

Eva explained that the 16 commuter line services in Region 8 Surabaya were 401 Commuter Line Dhoho Blitar-Surabaya Kota (Via Kertosono), 403 Commuter Line Dhoho Blitar-Surabaya Kota (Via Kertasono), 417 Commuer Line Dhoho Surabaya Kota-Blitar (Via Kertosono), 419 Commuter Line Dhoho Surabaya Kota-Blitar (Via Kertosono), 432 Commuter Line Penataran Blitar-Surabaya Kota (Via Malang), and 437 Commuter Line Penataran Blitar-Surabaya Kota (Via Malang).

Then, there are also 411 CL Dhoho CL Penataran Surabaya-Kertosono-Blitar-Malang-Surabaya, 413 CL Dhoho CL Penataran Surabaya-Kertosono-Blitar-Malang-Surabaya, and 415 CL Dhoho CL Penataran Surabaya-Kertosono-Blitar-Malang-Surabaya.

Other services include, 431 CL Dhoho CL Penataran Surabaya-Kertosono-Blitar-Malang-Surabaya, 433 CL Dhoho CL Penataran Surabaya-Kertosono-Blitar-Malang-Surabaya, 435 CL Dhoho CL Penataran Surabaya-Kertosono-Blitar-Malang-Surabaya, 440 Commuter Line Blorasura Cepu-Surabaya Pasar Turi, 441 Commuter Line Blorasura Surabaya Pasar Turi-Blora, 442 Commuter Line Bloraasura Cepu-Surabaya Pasar Turi, and 443 Commuter Line Blorasura Surabaya Pasar Turi-Blora.

According to Anne, the dynamic capacity adjustment is implemented on commuter line trips that surpass 100 km and use the economy class (K3).

Previously, she said that the dynamic capacity rule was 150% of the available seats.

“In detail, 100% sitting and 50% standing. The current capacity is 120% with 100% sitting and 20% standing,” she stated.

She continued that her agency was currently providing a facility for all users to purchase and order regional commuter line tickets through the KAI Access application.

Moreover, regarding service standards, KAI Commuter will provide the same service standards as Commuter Line Jabodetabek that has been successfully implemented.

“We are hoping and putting in the effort so that KAI Commuter can give a positive impact and become a transportation service solution everywhere we go,” Anne said.

Group transportation

On the other hand, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Region (Daop) 5 Purwokerto is offering non-extraordinary train (KLB) group transportation service for people who want to travel in groups.

“Non-KLB group transportation is a service provided for groups of people who want to travel together using trains that have the same schedule and service class. It has a minimum number of passengers,” PT KAI Daop 5 Purwokerto Head Daniel Johannes Hutabarat said in Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, yesterday.

He said that the current minimum number of passengers in a group that can be served by the non-KLB group transportation service was 10 passengers for the executive class and 20 passengers for the business class and the commercial economy class (nonsubsidised/PSO)

According to him, the service can facilitate customers in ordering their ticket as they will only need to handover their data to the contact person in each KAI working area.

“Potential customers can also choose their seat as long as it is still available,” he explained.
