Bisnis, Jakarta – The Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Ministry has not yet included the North Bali toll road project in Bali Province as a government priority.

Infrastructure Financing Director General of the PUPR Ministry Triono Junoasmono stated that the plan to construct the North Bali toll road has not yet been included as a national strategic project.

“What we are carrying out is the Gilimanuk-Mengwi [toll road] spanning from the west to the east [of Bali]. We have yet to reach [North Bali],” Triono said at Menara Mandiri 2 in Jakarta on Monday (26/8).

Yongki explained that the government is currently focused on building the main backbone of the toll road network in Bali. However, he did not rule out the possibility of the North Bali toll road in the future.

However, the process is still long and is awaiting the completion of the study.

“After it [the backbone network] is completed, if there is demand, we will study further extensions,” he affirmed.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono stated that the current priority is developing connectivity in Bali with the Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road. “The one in the pre-qualification process is the one from Mengwi to Gilimanuk. Not the one in North Bali,” he explained.

This information regarding the plan to construct a toll road in North Bali was stated by Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno.

He mentioned that the North Bali toll road project will be built to equalise tourism opportunities across the region.

Sandiaga hopes that the plan to construct a toll road in North Bali can be included as a priority project, with the aim of completing it by the end of 2029.

The North Bali toll road is expected to shift the focus of tourists from South Bali to North Bali, which also boasts attractive tourism destinations.

With a toll road, access to various tourist attractions in North Bali will become easier and more efficient.

The government is currently re-tendering the Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road project, which spans 96.84 kilometres.

The re-tender is being carried out to find an investor and an operator who will finance and manage the project.
