Jakarta, ID – PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is consistently enhancing its role as a development agent with the strategic project Bakauheni Harbour City (BHC). This project aims to create an integrated tourism destination and establish a new economic centre around the port.

ASDP Corporate Secretary Shelvy Arifin stated that Bakauheni Harbour City (BHC) is a national strategic project (PSN) designed to develop South Lampung. This includes enhancing Bakauheni Port, which serves as a gateway from Java to Sumatra that is expected to become a leading maritime tourism hub.

“The development of Bakauheni Harbour City (BHC) aims to integrate the tourism, port, and entertainment sectors to generate a multiplier effect for economic growth. Additionally, transforming the BHC area into a maritime tourism destination in Indonesia will link it to the domestic tourism routes in Sumatra, particularly in Lampung Province,” Shelvy said in Jakarta on Sunday (11/8/2024).

Shelvy affirmed that the project was an initiative to support government programmes to boost regional economic growth. “Bakauheni Harbour City or BHC was initiated with the aim to improve domestic tourism and support regional economic growth, especially in Sumatra,” Shelvy stated.

According to Shelvy Arifin, the collaboration between ASDP, Lampung Provincial Government, and other relevant partners in developing Bakauheni Harbour City (BHC) has significantly advanced the tourism sector in Lampung. This progress is largely due to the strong support from the government, particularly the Ministry of State-owned Enterprises. Shelvy highlighted that the development of the BHC area is one of the company's key targets for supporting regional and national economic growth, a goal that could be achieved during the tenure of State-owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir.

“We appreciate the support and trust from Minister Erick, especially regarding the BHC project. His continuous and extraordinary support has been invaluable,” he explained.

He explained that ASDP not only improved services and ensured the smooth operation of public and logistics transportation by ferries on the busy Java-Sumatra route, but also expanded into area development to boost tourism and economic growth in Lampung and its surrounding regions.

Previously, State-owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir also expressed his support for the project. "The incredible potential of Bakauheni must be continuously developed. The investment we have made in this development requires support from the regional government and the public to ensure the project's smooth progress," he stated.

Minister Erick Thohir emphasised the importance of the Bakauheni Harbour City (BHC) project as a sustainable ecosystem to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and to preserve the culture of Lampung. "I hope the BHC project can become a sustainable ecosystem, particularly in supporting MSMEs and promoting Lampung’s culture," he added.

On another occasion, Indonesian Consumers Protection Foundation (YLKI) Day-to-Day Management Head Tulus Abadi mentioned that ASDP has developed a concept for service improvements. He believes this aligns with the vision of connecting people and markets through an integrated ferry service and a waterfront tourism destination at Bakauheni Harbour City (BHC).
