Investor Daily - Pemerintah berencana bangun stasiun baru di Kopo

4 December 2023

Jakarta - The government is planning to build a new Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway station near the centre of Bandung in Kopo. Kopo Station will be located at the west end of Bandung between Padalarang Station and Tegalluar Station.

It was revealed during a discussion among Presidential Staff Head Moeldoko, PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (PT KCIC), PT Kereta Api Indonesia, and representatives from the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment and the Transportation Ministry.

“The decision is on KCIC. Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway needs to stop exactly in Bandung. Prioritise passenger comfort. Do not stop only at Padalarang and Tegalluar,” Moeldoko said in his statement.

According to Moeldoko, connectivity must be improved to consider the comfort of passengers. For example, the seat availability of feeder trains at Padalarang Station.

PT KCIC President Director Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi explained that his company as the operator of the high-speed railway was considering developing a high-speed railway station in Kopo.

However, the station's construction is currently hindered by insufficient funding and the absence of a required land-use permit. He said that around 30 hectares of land will potentially be developed to be a new high-speed railway station. However, funding is still the primary concern.

“There are around 30 hectares of land in Kopo. So, it is possible [to construct a station]. However, KCIC currently has insufficient funds,” Dwiyana said.

On the other hand, Acting Deputy Secretary for Mining and Investment Rifky Setiawan mentioned that further studies on the station construction in Kopo were required.

Currently, funding is focused on 4 operational stations, namely Halim, Karawang, Padalarang, and Tegalluar. “If another station is needed, we will highlight it from the funding side,” Rifky revealed.

Meanwhile, Railways Director General of the Transportation Ministry Mohamad Risal Wasal said that the plan was still being studied. According to him, one of the factors that will be considered is the effect on the speed of the train.

“We are still studying it. It is a high-speed railway. If it stops too often, it will not be high speed,” Risal said.

According to him, if Kopo Station is built, either Tegalluar Station or Padalarang Station must be closed. As the station is located in the middle of both stations, it can slow down the train’s speed.

“We are still studying it. If Kopo [Station] is opened, which [station] will be deleted or added? That is what we are studying,” he said.

However, Risal emphasised that the station would be constructed to enhance services for the people, and therefore, his agency will support this step. However, it will still be studied first.

On the other hand, Risal mentioned that the station would be constructed near a toll road. Hence, even though traffic jams tend to occur in Kopo, the condition will be safe. Previously, the plan had been included in KCIC’s blueprint.

“They said it has been discussed. However, we will see [later] because the suggestion is interesting. For regular trains, we can construct a siding track, but we are still studying the implementation for high-speed railways,” he explained.
