Jakarta – The Transportation Ministry is cooperating with two consulting companies from the UK, namely The Crossrail International and PT Mott Macdonald Indonesia, to ensure the operational readiness of Jabodebek LRT and Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (KCJB). The cooperation is established with a commitment of cooperation (COC) among the Transportation Ministry, PT Mott Macdonald Indonesia, and The Crossrail International that was signed on Monday (16/1/2023).

“Both projects are entering the final stage of construction, and the cooperation is expected to ensure that both modes of transportation will operate this year with excellent safety,” Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said while observing the signing of the cooperation yesterday with British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste Owen Jenkins.

The Transportation Minister said that the UK had excellent experiences in constructing railway infrastructure with various technologies and innovations.

“We can take advantage of their knowledge, skill, and expertise to conduct knowledge and technology transfers in the railway sector,” the Transportation Minister said.

Both projects, Jabodebek LRT and KCJB, use sophisticated technologies. Jabodebek LRT is developed with communication-based train control (CBTC) and a grade of automation (GoA) level 3 system, which makes it possible for Jabodebek LRT to be operated without a driver. Meanwhile, KCJB uses the GSM-R technology, which is the first time it is used in Indonesia.

Cooperation between Indonesia and the UK, especially in the transportation sector, has been excellently established. One of the past cooperation was in the development of Jakarta MRT through a Letter of Intent (LoI) signed in 2022.

“The cooperation on consulting before the operation of Jabodebek LRT and Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway is expected to strengthen collaboration between both countries,” the Transportation Minister said.

Meanwhile, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero)/KAI Public Relations VP Joni Martinus ensured that KCJB’s operational plan was in line with the target in June after KAI had received the state equity participation (PMN) worth Rp3.2 trillion to cover the cost overrun of the project construction. The PMN reception is based on Government Regulation No. 62/2022 on Increase of State Equity Participation of the Republic of Indonesia in the Stock Capital of Perusahaan Perseroan (Persero) PT Kereta Api Indonesia dated 31 December 2022.

“Through the PMN, KAI will accompany KCJB construction so that it can be enjoyed by the people at the targeted time. We and all stakeholders are strengthening our commitment and coordination to improve safety in KCJB construction,” Joni said recently.

Joni added that, until December 2022, the high-speed railway’s construction progress had reached 82.61%. Meanwhile, investment progress in the high-speed railway reached 91.8%. According to him, his company and all stakeholders are continuously preparing facilities, infrastructure, and human resources so that KCJB is in excellent and prime condition to prevent any significant issue to operate in June 2023.

Meanwhile, as of January 2023, Jabodebek LRT progress has reached 88.38%. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) also stated that they were focusing on completing the mass transportation mode so that it can operate in July 2023.

Jabodebek LRT Public Relation Manager Kuswardojo revealed that Jabodebek LRT would operate 31 trainsets. Every Jabodebek LRT trainset consists of six carriages. Jabodebek LRT can carry 1,308 passengers.

“Jabodebek LRT will serve the people from 5:00 AM WIB (Western Indonesia Time) to 11:27 PM WIB. Later, Jabodebek LRT will serve 434 trips every day with an initial target of carrying 137,000 passengers every day. It will arrive every 4 minutes at Dukuh Atas -Cawang Station, 8 minutes at Jati Mulya- Cawang Station, and 8 minutes at Harjamukti – Cawang Station,” Kuswardojo said.

Jabodebek LRT will serve the people with 18 stations, namely Dukuh Atas Station, Setiabudi Station, Rasuna Said Station, Kuningan Station, Pancoran Station, Cikoko Station, Ciliwung Station, Cawang Station, TMII Station, Kampung Rambutan Station, Ciracas Station, Harjamukti Station, Halim Station, Jatibening Baru Station, Cikunir I Station, Cikunir II Station, Bekasi Barat Station, and Jati Mulya Station. The stations are integrated with other modes of transportation to facilitate the mobilisation of the people. Besides that, Jabodebek LRT stations are located at strategic locations from housing, shopping, to business areas to make it easier for the people to use Jabodebek LRT.
