 2 January 2023

Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura/AP II (Persero) closes 2022 having served the arrivals and departures of around 62 million aircraft passengers at 20 airports managed by the company, which increased by 100% from 31 million passengers in 2021. Meanwhile, for flights (take offs and landings), they logged around 510,000 flights, which increased by around 40% from 360,000 flights.

AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said that the significant increase in flight traffic at AP II airports was encouraged by three aspects, the pandemic recovering that grew flight demand, AP II’s success in ensuring airport facilities and services, and flight slot time availability, as well as the airline’s capability to provide the fleet.

“The excellent pandemic handling is improving the pandemic condition, flight demand is growing, the airline can provide the fleet to meet demand, and AP II can provide flight slot times and arrange airport operation to provide various facilities and services. These three aspects correlate with and complement each other. Hence, the number of passengers at 20 AP II airports in 2022 reached 62 million passengers or increased by 100%,” Awaluddin explained in his official statement in Jakarta on Sunday (1/1/2023).

The pandemic improving also allows 2022 Eid transportation as well as 2022/2023 Christmas and New Year’s transportation that are several factors that boost flight demand.

“We are thankful for the support of the SOE (State-owned Enterprises) Ministry, Transportation Ministry, Airnav Indonesia, TNI, and Polri, as well as all other stakeholders so that, during the peak season where demand is high, AP II and airlines can accommodate the demand. 2022/2023 Christmas and New Year’s transportation is progressing smoothly and successfully,” Awaluddin explained.

On the other hand, during Christmas and New Year’s transportation that started on 19 December 2022, flight traffic at AP II airports has been quite high. The number of passenger movement from 19 to 31 December 2022 at 20 AP II airports reached 2.72 million passengers or increased by around 64% from 1.66 million passengers last year.

Moreover, aircraft movement reached 21,572 flights or increased by 36%, while cargo transportation reached 26.79 million kilograms. Specifically for Soekarno-Hatta Airport, during Christmas and New Year’s from 19 to 31 December 2022, passenger movement reached 1.69 million passengers or increased by 65%, while aircraft movement reached 12,234 flights or increased by 38%.

Awaluddin also predicts that most arrivals will occur on 2 January 2023 with the number of passengers reaching 220,000 passengers and flights reaching around 1,600 flights.

“Most arrivals will occur on 2 January 2023. We encourage aircraft passengers to manage their time to process their departure appropriately,” Awaluddin said.
