Investor Daily - Lintas penyeberangan Jangkar-Lembar pacu perekonomian Jawa-Lombok
19 January 2024
Jakarta, ID – Since its permanent operation on Sunday (7/1), the long-distance ferry service on the Jangkar (Situbondo) – Lembar (West Nusa Tenggara) route has continued to improve connectivity and logistics. Moreover, it has also continuously contributed to economic developments in Java-Lombok.
A transportation observer from Institut Teknologi Sumatra, IB Ilham Malik, revealed that the service transfer from Ketapang – Lembar to Jangkar – Lembar benefited various parties.
“The operational service change is expected to yield numerous benefits, especially for logistics from the north. It anticipates significantly lower transportation costs due to reduced fuel consumption, minimised tyre wear, and fewer additional expenses,” Ilham said in his statement in Jakarta on Thursday (18/1/2024).
Ilham also highlighted that this could alleviate the congestion at ports, which often face mixed traffic with various vehicles leading to queues.
“By transferring the service of the route to West Nusa Tenggara that is mainly utilised by logistics vehicles to go through Jangkar, the ferry port in Ketapang can concentrate on catering to small passenger vehicles,” he stated.
Based on the meeting to evaluate and optimise the ferry route of Jangkar – Lembar on 5 January 2024 and the letter from the River, Lake, and Ferry Transportation Director on the announcement of the service transfer to Lembar Port (West Nusa Tenggara) from Ketapang – Lembar during the 2023/2024 Christmas and New Year transportation period, the Jangkar – Lembar ferry route has officially operated on 7 January 2024. Moreover, from Saturday (6/1), ships previously operating the Ketapang – Gilimanuk route have changed their course to serve the Jangkar – Lembar ferry route.
Indonesian National Ferry Owner Association (INFA) Central Executive Board Chairperson J.A Barata said that his association supported the optimisation of the Jangkar – Situbondo ferry route to Lembar, West Nusa Tenggara.
“It is a form of support to the government’s commitment to continuously improve regional and national economies, promote tourism area development, and boost economic growth in both provinces,” he stated.
