Investor Daily - Worlds Water Forum pacu peluang investasi infrastruktur air

11 January 2024

Jakarta, ID – Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment reckoned that the 10th World Water Forum that will be held in May 2024 in Bali would create investment opportunities for water infrastructure development.

Environment and Forestry Management Deputy of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment Nani Hendiarti said that Indonesia was trusted to hold the 10th World Water Forum themed “Water for Shared Prosperity”. The forum is planned to be held in Bali from 18 to 24 May 2024.

“They will be divided to be discussed on how they will be replicated and developed, ensuring concrete actions in the field. The President directed that water was [essential] for shared prosperity. Everyone must have access to clean water,” Nani said during the virtual press conference Forum Merdeka Barat 9 regarding preparations for the 10th World Water Forum in Bali on Tuesday (9/1/2024).

According to Nani, the implementation of the World Water Forum in Bali is expected to create investment opportunities for water infrastructure construction.

“It [the 10th World Water Forum] opens investment opportunities [to resolve] water issues in Indonesia. So, in this context, it is great for the infrastructure and infrastructure development,” he explained.

Nani explained that providing safe, fair, and affordable drinking water access for all by 2030 would require around 1.7 trillion US dollars.

“Currently, in the drinking water sector, the development progress of the drinking water pipeline has only reached 20.6%. To increase it to 30%, around Rp123 trillion is required,” Nani said.

Meanwhile, Nani revealed that the state budget (APBN) could only cover for around 30% to 37% of the required funding for water infrastructure development. Hence, a blended finance scheme is required to cover the lack of funding with capital from investments.

Nanti explained that, at the 10th World Water Forum, a business meeting would be held with strategic partners to discuss cooperation and investment potentials regarding water infrastructure development.

“We will hold the session. So, after WWF (World Water Forum) is over, we can strengthen and improve Indonesia’s cooperation with strategic partners to accelerate water infrastructure development,” Nani said.

The 10th World Water Forum will be held from 18 to 24 May 2024 in Bali themed “Water for Shared Prosperity”. The event will feature three discussions covering thematic, political, and regional topics.

The implementation of the 10th World Water Forum is set to be attended by 30,000 participants, including 33 heads of states, 190 ministers from 180 countries, and representatives from 250 organisations that will attend the 214 forum sessions.
