Bisnis Indonesia - KCIC ukur kebersihan frekuensi KA Cepat

17 July 2023

Jakarta - PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) is conducting frequency clearing for Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway to ensure the smoothness of the communication system that uses the Global System for Mobile Communication Railway (GSM-R) platform. The clearing was carried out with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, the Communications and Informatics Ministry, Telkomsel, and Indosat by using an inspection train on Monday (10/7/2023).

KCIC Corporate Communication Manager Emir Monti said that the clearing was part of the testing and commissioning of the high-speed railway that has been continuously carried out.

“The result of the clearing will be evaluated by all parties to be followed up to ensure that the GSM-R frequency used is not interfered by other communication signals,” Emir said in his official statement in Jakarta on Thursday (14/7/2023).

The GSM-R frequency clearing for Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway is carried out to ensure that the GSM-R frequency has no interference and is strong enough to carry out the high-speed railway’s operation. The clearing is carried out as detailed as possible by using instruments available on the inspection train and other equipment provided by Telkomsel and Indosat.

Meanwhile, KCIC uses the GSM-R platform to ensure that the high-speed railway’s signalling and communication system is running smoothly. As a sophisticated transportation, the high-speed railway needs a reliable communication network to ensure the safety of its passengers.

GSM-R is a network that is meant for railway communication. It is also used by the railway industry in Europe, Saudi Arabia, and China. The GSM-R network uses the 2G network in the 900MHz frequency band to establish safe and reliable digital communication.

With GSM-R, a higher security level can be achieved as communication will be established uninterrupted. Even in areas such as tunnels where radio communication is not feasible, the GSM-R can handle them. The use of GSM-R will improve the safety of passengers, drivers, and maintenance officers.

Meanwhile, Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway is the first high-speed railway service in Indonesia and Southeast Asia that will operate at a speed of 350 km per hour. Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway spans 142.3 km with 13 tunnels that will serve four stations, namely Halim, Karawang, Padalarang, and Tegalluar. To improve connectivity, Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Railway will be connected to Jabodebek LRT, feeder trains, Commuter Line Bandung Raya, bus rapid transit, shuttles, and taxis.
