Jakarta - Jabodebek LRT’s operator is optimistic about the mode of transportation carrying up to 200,000 passengers per day when it fully operates.

Jabodebek LRT Public Relations Manager Kuswardoyo said that, initially, the operator targeted passengers reaching 137,000 per day when the mode of transportation carries out normal operation.

However, he added that the people’s interest in Jabodebek LRT was greater compared to the previous expectation.

It was discovered by the operator when they conducted a survey with Universitas Indonesia Testing, Measurement, Training, Observation, and Engineering Services (POLAR UI) last month.

The survey forecasts that Jabodebek LRT can carry 200,000 passengers per day.

The number increased by around 49% compared to the previous passenger target.

“From the latest survey result, it was found that interest [in LRT] was quite high. So, passengers are predicted to reach 200,000 per day,” he said when he was met at Jabodebek LRT Depot in East Bekasi on Thursday (6/7).

According to him, the forecast is acquired by implementing a base tariff assumption of Rp5,000 and a maximum tariff assumption of Rp25,000.

Kuswardoyo added that his company was also targeting an annual passenger growth of 5%.

With that target, he added that Jabodebek LRT could reach 500,000 passengers per day in the next 5 to 10 years.

However, he revealed that Jabodebek LRT was not meant to acquire Jabodebek Commuter Line (KRL) passengers.

Kuswardoyo said that the mode of transportation was designed to attract passengers who previously used private vehicles.

“Our purpose is not to transfer KRL passengers, but to attract those who use private vehicles to use LRT,” he said.
