Jakarta, ID – The Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Ministry is constructing two dams worth Rp9.2 trillion in total, namely Cibeet Dam and Cijurey Dam in Bogor Regency, West Java Province.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono explained that the construction of both Cibeet Dam and Cijurey Dam aimed to mitigate downstream floods along Citarum River. These dams are anticipated to effectively minimise flood risks in Bekasi Regency and Karawang Regency. Notably, the construction of both dams began in September 2023.

“Both dams were constructed to control downstream floods along Citarum River, such as in Muaragembong, Bekasi, and Karawang. We hope the public can support the construction of both dams that will be followed up by the construction of several embankments in the downstream [area],” Basuki said in his press statement in Jakarta on Monday (4/3/2024).

In accordance with the existing contracts, the construction of both Cibeet Dam and Cijurey Dam is organised into three distinct packages. The construction expenses for both dams are covered by multi-year contracts. The contract amount for Cibeet Dam is Rp5.5 trillion, while for Cijurey Dam, it stands at Rp3.7 trillion.

In Package 1, PT Nindya Karya-PT Adhi Karya-PT Bahagia Bangun Nusa (JO) collaboratively undertakes the construction of Cibeet Dam. This involves the left backfill of the main dam and the construction of the dam itself. Moving on to Package 2, PT PP-PT Marfri Jaya Abadi-PT Daya Mulia Turangga (JO) is responsible for the construction. This package encompasses the construction of the main dam on the right, public facilities, and the access road. In Package 3, PT Waskita Karya-PT Bumi Karsa-PT KPR (JO) takes charge, focusing on the main dam in the center, the spillway structure, and the intake structure.

Cibeet Dam is constructed in Cariu Sub-district with an inundation area of 735.61 hectares (ha), capable of containing 22.53 million m3 of water in the live storage and 28.75 million m3 of water in the dead storage, amounting to a total capacity of 97.53 million m3.

The total capacity of both dams is forecasted to reduce downstream floods along Citarum River by 66% as well as water 1,000 ha of new irrigation lands and 1,037 ha of existing crop fields. It is also expected to supply water to 5,000 ha of irrigation lands along the Tarum Channel as well as produce 3.77 m3 per second of raw water and 0.25 MW of electricity from hydropower plants (PLTAs).

Meanwhile, the construction of Cijurey Dam, also divided into three packages, involves Package 1 managed by PT Brantas Abripraya-PT Minarta-PT Raya (JO). This package encompasses the construction of the main dam, supporting buildings, and mechanical-electrical works. Package 2 is overseen by PT Hutama Karya-PT Sacna (JO), focusing on the main dam, the access road, and sediment control buildings. Lastly, Package 3 is handled by PT Wijaya Karya-PT Jaya Konstruksi (JO) and includes the construction of the spillway structure, the access road, hydro mechanical and electrical works, as well as supporting facilities.

Cijurey Dam is planned to have an effective capacity of 9.76 million m3. The dam that is administratively located in Sukamakmur Sub-district, Cariu, and Tanjungsari is also forecasted to reduce upstream floods along Cihoe River by 59.33% and water 561 hectares of irrigation lands. Besides that, it will produce 0.71 m3 per second of raw water and 2x0.5 MW of electricity from PLTAs.
