Investor Daily - KCIC sosialisasikan commissioning test KCJB

15 May 2023

Jakarta - PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) is making preparations approaching the commissioning test of Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (KCJB) by informing the public to support the test process. The people are asked to not hold activities along the KCJB route as it can endanger the commissioning test.

KCIC Corporate Secretary General Manager Rahadian Ratry explained that the commissioning test that will be conducted was the early stage between KCIC and contractors to ensure the readiness of KCJB’s facilities and infrastructure that have been constructed. The next stage is the commissioning test with the Transportation Ministry to certify the operation worthiness of KCJB.

Even though the KCJB route has been fenced with barbed wires, the people are still asked to maintain the facilities and infrastructure of this national strategic project. The KCJB route spans 142.3 km from Halim to Tegalluar in subgrade, elevated, tunnel, and bridge manners.

“The KCJB route will be electrified with 27.5 KV of electricity, so the people are asked to not enter the KCJB area as it can be dangerous because they can be electrocuted. Kids around the route are also asked to not fly kites around the KCJB route as the string and the kite can disturb KCJB’s electricity,” Rahadian said in his statement on Thursday (11/05/2023) night.

KCJB will also have a very high speed of up to 350 km/hour. So, even the smallest objects can hinder and endanger KCJB’s operation. The people who have cattle and pets are also asked to keep an eye on them as they can enter the KCJB area.

“Currently, we are informing public figures around the KCJB route. The purpose is to explain the stages that will be carried out to prepare the KCJB operation. The public figures are expected to disseminate the commissioning test plan to the people in their areas,” Rahadian explained.

Besides holding direct disseminations, KCIC also installed signs in the form of posters and banners regarding KCJB’s commissioning test.

“The people are expected to actively maintain their safety and others around the KCJB route,” he said.

Rahadian added that KCIC has been coordinating with TNI and Polri to support KCJB’s operation since the construction to the commissioning until the commercial operation. KCIC is thankful for the support provided by TNI and Polri as well as all stakeholders that support the commissioning test.

“KCIC is also asking the people to collectively maintain all facilities and infrastructure of KCJB so that KCJB can operate on time,” Rahadian added.

KCJB’s speed

Rahadian mentioned that KCJB’s operation would reflect on the success of high-speed railways in other advanced countries. KCJB will adopt technologies and services that have been implemented there. So, it is expected to make various improvements to the economy by attracting domestic and international tourists.

“The speed and the comfort offered by KCJB are an added value for tourists who want to travel safely, quickly, and comfortably,” he said.

He said that, in around 30-40 minutes, people from Jakarta could go to Bandung and vice versa using KCJB. He said that passengers could save time when they go on vacation, visit tourism destinations, and conduct other activities. Besides that, a shorter travel time is certainly attractive for tourists.

“We see that high-speed railways will be the future [mode of] transportation in Indonesia. China has proven that, now it is Indonesia’s time,” Rahadian stated.

The high-speed railway operation in China is welcomed by the people. Since it first operates in 2008, the high-speed railway there has served more than 10 billion passengers. Not only for work, but passengers also take advantage of the high-speed railway for tourism.

Quoting the data from the tourism bureau of Toncheng, orders for high-speed railway tour packages in June 2022 increased by 80%. Meanwhile, the tourism bureau of Tuniu recorded that tourists who chose the high-speed railway as their mode of transportation for tourism reached 132% in June 2022. The increase was achieved through tourism package promotions and support from local governments in various regions regarding the high-speed railway.

For example, in Hubei and Chongqing, high-speed railway passengers can receive free tickets or 50% discounts for several tourism destinations. Moreover, the culture and tourism departments of regions in eastern China, such as Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, and Shanghai, collectively released a list of tourism destinations that are passed through by the high-speed railway route.
